Transformers: The Ride 3D Is Now Open
Prepare for the greatest battle you’ll ever ride!
Universal Studio’s new 3D Transformers ride officially opened to the public Memorial Day weekend. The ride is now located where “Backdraft” pyrotechnics and the special effects stage closed down last year. The ride is described as a “mind-blowing sensory experience beyond the movies.”
“When you go see a movie, even if you bring something forward in the screen, it’s always going to be cut off by the border of the screen,” explains Jeff White, a visual effects supervisor at ILM who’s worked on all three Transformers films as well as the new ride. “The ride was entirely new for us. The audience can’t see the edges of the screen, so we can bring our characters as far forward in 3-D as we wanted to.”
Transformers: The Ride 3D is a thrilling spectacle that blurs the lines between fiction and reality. High definition 3D media and flight simulation technology converge to shape a war, epic in nature. The ride immerses guests into its experience as participants rather than spectators. In the waiting halls, training videos treat riders as recruits for the upcoming apocalyptic battle. During the ride, you fight the Decepticons and protect AllSpark along with Optimus Prime!
The ride is a complete sensory immersion using the latest in entertainment technology. An “EVAC” vehicle seats 13 passengers, taking them on a journey of on 2000 feet of roller coast track. Guests witness a six minute battle on 14 super-high-definition screens as large as 60 feet tall. All of these elements work with special water, wind and smoke effects to create a 4D experience of a lifetime.
Michael Bay, the director of the Transformers film franchise, collaborated with Universal on the ride, although it has its own unique storyline. A similar attraction called Transformers: The Ride, opened last December in Universal Studios Singapore.
Guests must be 40” tall to ride. Children 40” to 48” must be accompanied by an adult 14 years or older. Those choosing to stay in hotels close to Universal Studios may be able to buy discount tickets to the park, including the Buy a Day, Get 2012 deal.
