Experience Japan at the Food & Sake Collection!
Have you been craving some great Japanese cuisine? You’re in luck! Universal City is hosting the Japanese Food & Sake Collection 2012 on Sunday, January 29. The event will take place at the Hilton Hotel Sierra Ballroom in the Lobby. Guests can win prizes such as airline tickets to Japan, restaurant certificates and much more by attending the Collection.
Three talented chefs will perform a cooking demonstration for 10-15 minutes during this all day event. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa will present Sashimi Salad with Matsuhisa Dressing; Chef Katsuya Uechi will demonstrate Edomae Sushi and Chef Hitoshi Sugiura will present Tuna sashimi style with yuzu caviar.
There will also be a Sushi Eating Contest for a prize of $100. Five contestants will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis. In order to be considered, you can email the application form to email@example.com or fax to 310-375-4102. The entry form is available here. Contestants will be given 30 pieces of sushi and one hand roll to eat. A Sake tasting contest will also be held.
One of the more traditional attractions at the Collection is the folklore of the Namahage. The annual ritual of Namahage happens every 31st of December in the Akita Prefecture. Young men dress like the frightening Namahage demon and search door-to-door for children or new community members. The ritual encourages children to keep studying and adults to keep working hard. The collection will also feature several Taiko performances.
The event is put on by the Japanese Food and Culture Association, who hosts several Japanese culture events all over Southern California yearly. This event is also held annually in Anaheim. Events put on in the past include the Sushi & Washoku Matsuri and the JRA Japanese Food Festival in Los Angeles. The purpose of the JFCA is to organize events to promote Japanese food culture in the United States. Buy your tickets today to experience the culture of Japan in Los Angeles!
