Bastille Day Los Angeles Festival – July 17
Join Angelenos as they celebrate the 10th annual Bastille Day LA Festival in the heart of Los Angeles, right near Dodgers Stadium. This iconic celebration will be full of French gastronomic delicacies, numerous activities, and fun live entertainment. Each year for the past nine years, thousands of people have flocked to this festival, thus making it one of the most well-attended community events in Los Angeles. There will be some great performances by both French and English speakers and a variety of other acts as well.
Entertainment for the day includes a Provencal Pétanque Tournament, a common French game played with metal balls, and a Parisian Waiters Race, in which waiters from top LA restaurants will compete for a prize and trophy to be displayed in their storefronts. Waiters are able to show off their quick, efficient, and world-class customer service while racing against each other. There will also be street performers, comedians, singers, artists, lots of French Market vendors, and races. A raffle will have many excellent prizes, the biggest being a trip to Paris! There will also be famous French foods, wines, and other gastronomic pleasures.
Bastille Day is a French holiday that commemorates the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789. Citizens storming the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation during the French Revolution. Today, citizens celebrate on the famous Champs-Élysées avenue in France on the morning of July 14 in front of the President of the Republic. The morning starts off with a grand parade complete with infantry troops, cadets, and even aircrafts! The day continues with many celebrations of all styles and typically ends with brilliant fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.
So come celebrate and appreciate French culture in Los Angeles with both French and American citizens alike as they take part in commemorating French independence. This event will be a fun, relaxing Sunday and one of the best festivals of the summer!
